Research Process

The Animal Health Board contracts approximately $2.5 million per annum in applied research.

In September of each year opinions on research priorities are sought from researchers, stakeholders and other interested parties.

In October, the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) meets to discuss these views and assesses AHB’s current research needs. The outcome of this discussion forms the basis for the Annual Research Priorities document.

In December this is posted on the AHB website and circulated to the research community, along with a request to submit Expressions of Interest (EOIs).

In a March meeting TAG assesses submitted EOIs, and researchers with high ranking EOIs are requested to submit a full project proposal. In May  TAG evaluates and selects the projects to be contracted in the next financial year.

Technical Advisory Group

AHB’s Technical Advisory Group (TAG) comprises ten individuals who come from a range of organisations and have a broad diversity of expertise.  AHB’s Technical Manager, Paul Livingstone, chairs TAG.

TAG has a vital role to play in guiding AHB’s research directions and every final report is reviewed by three members of TAG.
