Wild animal (vector) control

Possums are the main source of TB infection: Photo Lance LawsonAbout 80% of TB infection in cattle and deer is caused by contact with wild animals carrying the disease (mainly possums, and to a lesser extent ferrets).

Animals carrying and transferring TB are referred to as vectors.

A range of wild animal control and surveillance programmes are run to combat the spread of disease by vectors.

The AHB contracts agencies to manage its vector control programmes.
